Gareth Bale’s agent has blasted the treatment of the Wales international from Real Madrid supporters as “nothing short of a disgrace”.

Despite having formed part of a trophy-laden era for the Blancos, a 29-year-old forward continues to have his critics in the Spanish capital.

Form and fitness issues have been endured throughout a six-year spell at Santiago Bernabeu, but there have been as many highs as lows.

The Wales international has faced plenty of criticism in the Spanish capital this season, but he will not be running away from Santiago Bernabeu.

Jonathan Barnett believes Madrid fans would be wise to remember as much, with Bale having contributed significantly to the success of the club in recent seasons.

He believes those efforts are being unfairly overlooked during a testing campaign for all concerned, with one of the finest players on the planet becoming a scapegoat for those who should be grateful for his presence.

Barnett told Sky Sports: “This generation of Real fans will be talking about Gareth’s goals for years to come. Frankly, they should be ashamed of themselves.

“Gareth deserves the greatest of respect. The way Real fans have treated him is nothing short of a disgrace.

“In the six years he has been in Spain, he has won everything. He’s one of the best players in the world. Those fans should be kissing his feet.”

Bale was jeered from the field on his most recent outing for Madrid after he was drafted back into Santiago Solari’s starting line-up for their Clasico clash with Barcelona on Saturday but lasted just 61 minutes.

Real were already trailing 1-0 when he was replaced by Marco Asensio and would go on to suffer defeat by that scoreline to their arch-rivals.

Bale contributed little while on the pitch, but the same could be said for many of those around him.

Such issues have lead to reports that he will be allowed to leave Los Blancos this summer, with Manchester United and former club Tottenham among those linked with his signature.

Barnett, though, insists his client will not be departing the Spanish capital this summer while refuting claims Bale has struggled to integrate himself into life abroad.

“Despite what the Spanish press are reporting, he’s happy, he speaks reasonable Spanish and there is no problem between him and the rest of the Real players. The people writing these things know nothing about him.

“There has not been one single discussion about Gareth leaving Madrid. He isn’t going anywhere this summer. Despite what’s been reported, he’s content, he wants to stay at Real and they want him.”

Bale has contributed 15 goals to the Madrid cause this season, including a hat-trick against Kashima Antlers during another successful Club World Cup campaign.

His outings have taken him past 100 strikes for the club, and 200 appearances, but intense speculation continues to surround his future amid talk of a possible Premier League return this summer for the former Tottenham man.

Barnett has moved on a regular basis to quash such talk, but his latest comments are likely to have done little to dampen the exit speculation in Spain.

Lukaku Sends Cryptic Message After Report of Bust-Up With Paul Pogba Over Penalty Miss

The Manchester United Forward was reportedly angry with his team-mate for not letting him take the spot-kick against Southampton but he’s seemingly denied the story.

Romelu Lukaku has posted a cryptic message where he appears to deny a report that had claimed he had a row with Manchester United team-mate Paul Pogba over the Frenchman’s penalty miss against Southampton.

A report in The Sun newspaper claimed that the pair had to be separated by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the game, with Lukaku apparently unhappy that Pogba had denied him the chance of scoring a hat-trick.

United had fallen behind in Saturday’s Premier League clash, with Yan Valery’s stunning strike having given Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side a shock lead at Old Trafford after 26 minutes.

Andreas Pereira levelled shortly after half-time, however, before two goals from Belgium international Lukaku, either side of an equaliser from James Ward-Prowse, put the hosts in front.

Then came the penalty incident that saw Pogba, the club’s designated taker, have his effort saved by goalkeeper Angus Gunn to stop United moving further in front in the game.

And The Sun claims that Lukaku was apparently unhappy not to have been allowed to take the spot-kick to complete his hat-trick and that he let Pogba know how he felt at full-time.

The 25-year-old has now seemingly denied the story, however, posting on Twitter: “When the hate don’t work they start telling lies…”

Indeed, he had scored from his last three attempts, against Brighton, Burnley, and Fulham, although his miss against Southampton means his record now stands at six scored from nine.

The result against Southampton means United are still very much in the hunt for a top-four finish, with Solskjaer’s side currently occupying fourth, one point ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal.

They will turn their attention to the Champions League next, however, and their crunch last-16 second-leg meeting with PSG in Paris.

The French side hold all the aces in the tie having claimed an impressive 2-0 win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford – Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe grabbing the goals in the first leg back on February 12.

And United’s task is all the more difficult bearing in mind that Pogba, who has been so influential for the club since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as manager, is suspended for the game after his second yellow card for a foul on Dani Alves.

Mbappe More Like Ronaldo Than Messi

Kylian Mbappe is considered to be more of the Ronaldo mould than Lionel Messi-esque, with the Paris Saint-Germain star compared to Brazilian and Portuguese stars bearing an iconic moniker.

At just 20 years of age, a World Cup-winning France international is already considered to sit alongside the global elite.

His performances for club and country have positioned him among illustrious company and seen him regularly billed as a Ballon d’Or winner of the future.

Former PSG striker Pauleta is in no doubt that Mbappe will one day claim that prestigious prize – possibly on multiple occasions – with there still much potential to be unlocked in one so young.

He told L’Equipe of one of the most exciting talents to have emerged for some time: “It’s been two or three years now that he has been impressing everyone.

“He is a player who can make a difference at any time, he has reached a very high level and has already won a lot when still at the beginning of his career. He is a player who can make fans love PSG.

“He can reach the level of Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo and win several Ballons d’Or.

“He can also continue winning with PSG. The club has done a lot for him, I hope he will stay there. When you are young, you can always learn and go even higher.”

Pressed on whether Mbappe will go on to become more like mercurial Argentine Messi or Portuguese goal machine Ronaldo, Pauleta added: “He reminds me more of Cristiano Ronaldo, who started on one side and evolved more and more.

“I see him finishing like a No. 9 but today he is not one yet.

“I prefer him on the left side as he likes to go inside with his right foot. He has more space on one side to make his power count. He could evolve into a No. 10, though, behind one or two attackers.”

Among those with the power to mould Mbappe’s future role is current PSG boss Thomas Tuchel.

He has seen the youngster thrive as a talismanic striker over recent weeks during the injury-enforced absence of fellow frontmen Edinson Cavani and Neymar.

Tuchel believes that is the position that Mbappe will eventually settle in.

He told BT Sport ahead of a Champions League clash with Manchester United on Wednesday: “I do not see him as a Messi but as a real attacker.

“But, for me, he can become the best striker in the world. He’s on the way towards that.”

Pressed on whether similarities could be drawn with another Ronaldo – the Brazilian World Cup winner – Tuchel added: “Yes, it’s a good comparison. I never thought about it, but it’s a good comparison.”
