Lukaku Sends Cryptic Message After Report of Bust-Up With Paul Pogba Over Penalty Miss

Lukaku Sends Cryptic Message After Report of Bust-Up With Paul Pogba Over Penalty Miss

The Manchester United Forward was reportedly angry with his team-mate for not letting him take the spot-kick against Southampton but he’s seemingly denied the story.

Romelu Lukaku has posted a cryptic message where he appears to deny a report that had claimed he had a row with Manchester United team-mate Paul Pogba over the Frenchman’s penalty miss against Southampton.

A report in The Sun newspaper claimed that the pair had to be separated by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the game, with Lukaku apparently unhappy that Pogba had denied him the chance of scoring a hat-trick.

United had fallen behind in Saturday’s Premier League clash, with Yan Valery’s stunning strike having given Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side a shock lead at Old Trafford after 26 minutes.

Andreas Pereira levelled shortly after half-time, however, before two goals from Belgium international Lukaku, either side of an equaliser from James Ward-Prowse, put the hosts in front.

Then came the penalty incident that saw Pogba, the club’s designated taker, have his effort saved by goalkeeper Angus Gunn to stop United moving further in front in the game.

And The Sun claims that Lukaku was apparently unhappy not to have been allowed to take the spot-kick to complete his hat-trick and that he let Pogba know how he felt at full-time.

The 25-year-old has now seemingly denied the story, however, posting on Twitter: “When the hate don’t work they start telling lies…”

Indeed, he had scored from his last three attempts, against Brighton, Burnley, and Fulham, although his miss against Southampton means his record now stands at six scored from nine.

The result against Southampton means United are still very much in the hunt for a top-four finish, with Solskjaer’s side currently occupying fourth, one point ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal.

They will turn their attention to the Champions League next, however, and their crunch last-16 second-leg meeting with PSG in Paris.

The French side hold all the aces in the tie having claimed an impressive 2-0 win over the Red Devils at Old Trafford – Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe grabbing the goals in the first leg back on February 12.

And United’s task is all the more difficult bearing in mind that Pogba, who has been so influential for the club since Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as manager, is suspended for the game after his second yellow card for a foul on Dani Alves.

Senate asks banks to allow up to N40,000 per ATMs withdrawal and CBN to suspend card maintenance fee

Senate asks banks to allow up to N40,000 per withdrawal from their ATMs and asks CBN to suspend card maintenance fee

The Senate has passed a resolution calling on the Central Bank of Nigeria to suspend the ATM card maintenance charges being deducted from customers’ accounts per month. They also called on commercial banks to configure their machines to dispense up to N40,000 per withdrawal.

The Senate made this known via a tweet @SPNigeria. This resolution came as part of a motion on the illicit and excessive bank charges on customers accounts, sponsored by Senator Olugbenga Ashafa, representing Lagos East.

Speaking on the Motion, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki said:

This is a motion that affects the lives of every Nigerian — irrespective of what part of the country you come from or whatever political affiliation you might have. This is why we are here: to always defend and protect the interests of the Nigerian people.

Senate asks banks to allow up to N40,000 per withdrawal from their ATMs and asks CBN to suspend card maintenance fee

The Senate President said the Senate must work to ensure that the Senate’s resolutions on the excessive bank charges go beyond the debate stage and actually takes effect.

He said:

This Senate has done this many times before; when there was a hike in the mobile telecommunication data charges, we intervened and put an end to that. When there were discrepancies and increases in electricity prices, we also took action. We have done this on a number of similar cases. Therefore, on this, I want us to take effective resolutions.

The Senate further directed its Committees on Banking, Insurance & other Financial Institutions and Finance to conduct an investigation into the propriety of ATM card maintenance charges in comparison with international best practices and report back to the Senate.

Labour Adamant, Begins Nationwide Strike Today (Minimum Wage)

Despite pressure from the federal government, the organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and United Labour Congress (ULC), yesterday insisted on commencing a nationwide strike to demand a quick implementation of a new minimum wage for workers in the country. There is palpable fear in the land that barring any last minute change of plan, the industrial action may ground government and other business activities across the country. As at last night, motorists and other consumers of petroleum products across the country involved themselves in panic buying of the products for fear of the strike action by organised labour. Fueling the apprehension, President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, told journalists at a press briefing yesterday that public offices, schools, banks and other places of work are expected to comply with the strike action, which is bound to shut down the economy. According to Wabba, it became obvious that the government did not intend to keep its promise of implementing a new minimum wage for workers.
He pointed out that the industrial action became the last resort following the federal government’s refusal to reconvene the meeting of the tripartite national minimum wage committee to enable it to conclude its work.

He said, ” The action is in compliance with the decision of the various organs of the organised labour which endorsed the 14-day ultimatum served on the federal government by members of the Organised Labour who are members of the Tripartite Committee on the new National Minimum Wage. “The Labour organs further mandated their leadership to take all necessary steps, including a warning strike in the first instance to compel the government to reconvene the meeting of the Committee in order to bring it to a logical conclusion. In compliance with this mandate, all workers in the public and private sectors at all levels across the country have been directed to comply”. Noting that economic activities, both in the private and public sectors, will be grounded today, Wabba said, “Industrial unions, state councils, all worker organisations and our civil society allies have been directed to step up mobilization of their members.
“All public and private institutions, offices, banks, schools, public and private business premises including filling stations are to remain shut till further notice.
“All those who mean well for this country are to see to the success of this action. Furthermore, this action is to remain in force until further directives are given”.
LEADERSHIP recalls that the national minimum wage committee, which was inaugurated in November 2017, had commenced work in March 2018 with timelines to deliver on its mandate of arriving at a new national minimum wage between August and September 2018.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, had in February this year during the 40th-anniversary celebration of the NLC, assured workers that they would have a new minimum wage in September. The NLC president said the claims by state governors that they cannot pay salary is due to high level of corruption, excessive cost of governance, indulgence in obscene lifestyle, white elephant projects and not lack of funds. He said, “Indeed, the government ought to have commended workers and their unions for waiting patiently for two years before commencing negotiations for a new National Minimum Wage. We advise that our disposition should not be taken for granted.
Meanwhile, the federal government yesterday said the tripartite committee on the new national minimum wage will reconvene its meeting on October 4 to conclude its negotiation process.
Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige said this while addressing journalists after a closed meeting with the leadership of organised labour.
The minister earlier met with organised labour leaders who were also part of the Tripartite Committee on the new National Minimum Wage to update them on the government decision.
“One of the ways that we going to show it is by implementing the new national minimum wage and this we need to fix a base for the lowest paid worker in Nigeria. We are resuming next week, precisely on Thursday, October 4, and the meeting may spillover to October 5, as we normally use two days for the meeting. So, we are reconvening the meeting on the October 4, and all the process has been put in place”, he said.

The minister noted that the Labour leaders have been informed about it and are expected to communicate to their members that there is no need to embark on the strike action.
He assured organised labour that before the meeting on the October 4, the necessary demands by organised labour would have being factored in.
The minister said, “Part of our consultation means that the Economic Management Team, which is managing the entire economy of the country, would have something to work on.
“Already, they are working on it together with the National Salaries and Wages Commission and it is expected that before that meeting on October 4, they would have been through with the work. Everything is subject to negotiation. So, on Thursday, October 4, we are going back to the negotiating table”.
Ngige added that the 14-day ultimatum issued the federal government did not get to him otherwise he would have addressed it scientifically the way it should be done.
He also said that federal government was optimistic that the committee would wrap up in October and all other processes pertaining the new national minimum wage for workers in the country.

NNPC Cautions Against Panic Buying Of Fuel
Meanwhile, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) yesterday appealed to motorists and other consumers of petroleum products across the country not to engage in panic buying of the products for fear of the planned industrial action by organised labour.
The group managing director of the Corporation, Dr Maikanti Baru, said the federal government is seriously engaging the NLC and other labour unions on the issues raised.
In a statement he issued in Abuja yesterday, NNPC group general manager, group public affairs division, Ndu Ughamadu, quoted the NNPC GMD as affirming that the nation has 37-day self-sufficiency in petroleum premium motor spirit (PMS), otherwise called petrol.
According to the statement, Baru assured that all the NNPC depots across the country, including the private ones engaged by the corporation on throughput basis, have an abundance of petroleum products to meet the needs of Nigerians.
He said all NNPC depot managers have been instructed to intensify products loading and other activities in their depots to avert any fallout of developments in respect of the NLC’s proposed strike.
Baru explained that the NNPC would continue to meet the products consumption needs of all Nigerians wherever they may be within the shores of the country.

Google Celebrates 20th Birthday Today

Hurray Google is 20 today, the 27th day of September 2018!

According to Alexa, a company that monitors website traffic, Google is the most visited website in the world. This is absolutely true! There is hardly a day that passes that I don’t visit Google. I know this is also the case with many people. We live in a world where there is a huge craving for new information and search engines like Yahoo, AOL, Ask, Bing, Baidu and Google make it even easier to find new information at the comfort of our homes.

According to Forbes, in May 2018, Google has a net worth of $132.1 Billion and it is listed as the world’s second most valuable brand in the world after Apple.
How Google rose from a website formed at the dorm room of two PhD students at Stanford University in 1998 to become one of the world’s most significant companies offering a wide variety of products is simply amazing.

Larry Page and Sergey Brin grew up in families that had a good background in science and technology.
Sergey’s father was a maths lecturer at the University of Maryland and his mother was a scientist at NASA. Larry’s father had a degree in computer science from the University of Michigan while his mother was a database consultant with a master’s degree in computer science.

Therefore, before both of them met, they were already used to computer systems and database management. Previously, search engines ranked results by counting how many times the search terms appeared on the page, however, Larry and Page thought about and then developed a better system that analyzed the relationships among websites which they called Page Rank. Page Rank was a system of determining a website’s relevance by the number of pages, and the importance of those pages that linked back to the original site.

Looking For Funds

Larry Page and Sergey Brin did not actually found Google in order to build a business or a company. Their main drive and inspiration was to build a great PhD thesis. They formed a prototype of their search engine, called Backrub, and later renamed it Google in 1997. The term Google was actually a play on the word googol, a mathematical term for one followed by 100 zeros, which represented the vast amounts of data on the web. While on campus, the founders launched their invention on Stanford University’s intranet. This new search engine soon gained much popularity among the university environment via word-of-mouth recommendations, as users quickly discovered how faster and more relevant its search results were.

The founders attempted to sell this new technology to Yahoo, Excite and Alta Vista which was the most popular search engine as at that time for about $1m. However, each of companies declined the offer. At that time, search for information and Google’s technology to produce search results in split seconds didn’t really present any attractive opportunity to revenue generation to advertisers. But then, the founders were very passionate that they had created a product that people truly needed, they were left with no option but to take the Google to the market themselves.

In August 1998, Larry and Sergey met private investor Andy Bechtolsheim, a co-founder of Sun Microsystems who had earlier sold another business to Cisco for hundreds of millions of dollars. Bechtolsheim was fascinated with this new product that he wrote out a cheque of $100,000 on the spot in favour of Google Inc, compelling Larry and Sergey to incorporate the company. This became the birth of Google.

The Company Today

Today, with more 60,000 employees in 50 different countries, Google makes hundreds of products used by billions of people worldwide which includes: YouTube, Android Operating System, Android phones and tablets, Smartbox, , Google Search, Google Maps, Google Earth, Google Chrome browser, Gmail, Google Analytics, Google Calendar, Google Finance, Googleplex, Google Plus, Google Drive, Google Fibre, Google Play, Google Translate, Google Store, Google Duo, Blogger and many other numerous products.

Most of the things we do on the internet are controlled by Google and recently they started working on a project called the Google Self Driving Cars. In this project, cars will be automatically controlled by a software created by Google.

The company is the world’s second most valuable brand after Apple and has a net worth of $132.1 Billion as at May 2018 and it continues to grow, increase in its innovation and new products and it keeps attracting the best minds in ICT across the world.

Happy birthday once again to Google for impacting the lives of many people around the world.

Ben Bruce showers praises on Davido

A Nigerian senator, Ben-Murray Bruce, has showered praises on pop star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, for the support shown to his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, during Saturday’s election in the State.

Mr Adeleke, a senator representing Osun West is vying to be Osun State governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Bruce shared the message on Sunday through his Twitter page after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the election inconclusive.

“Dear @iam_Davido, Anyone that has a son or a nephew like you does not even need federal power. God has blessed that person with a power mightier than that wielded by the clueless @OfficialAPCNg. The @OfficialPDPNig has a lot to be grateful to God over you and your steadfastness!” he said.

Though a re-run election has been slated in the areas where votes were cancelled, the announcement by INEC has created diverse reactions, including condemnation from the PDP.

In a statement shared by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP said the process was “conclusive and that its candidate, Ademola Adeleke, who won a total of 254, 698 votes, is in clear lead and should be immediately declared winner by INEC, having met the requirements of the 1999 Constitution (as amended)”.

In a series of Tweets following Saturday’s election, Davido was seen actively showing support for his uncle and even charged President Muhammadu and INEC to “do the right thing.”

“You are a man of Integrity sir please do the right thing !! @MBuhari …. @inecnigeria @IsiakaAdeleke1 !! The People have spoken!!” he said.

Although Mr Adeleke’s bid for the number one position in the state was embraced by controversies, it did not stop the singer from showing massive support as he pulled out a mammoth crowd during the campaign process, which many say contributed greatly to his uncle’s bid.

Davido, 22, alongside his record label mates have been in Osun State in the last few days soliciting votes for the PDP candidate popularly known as the ‘dancing senator’.

FIFA Doesn’t Scare Us – Dalung

Nigeria’s Sports Minister Solomon Dalung has said they will not be scared by the world football governing body FIFA.

The Minister told KweséESPN on Friday in Kampala that since Nigeria is a sovereign state, they will not bow to pressures from FIFA.

Earlier in the week, FIFA issued Nigeria with an ultimatum stating that they have until 20 August to restore and recognise Amaju Pinnick as the legitimate president of the NFF or face a ban.

“FIFA will not scare us. We are a big country and FIFA must learn to listen to a country that is investing a lot of money in football development,” Dalung told KweséESPN at the Seninde Foundation Women’s Football tournament hosted at the Philip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, where he was a guest.

“There is a misconception of the entire situation. FIFA is an international organisation. Nigeria is a country and a defined sovereign state which is affiliated to FIFA. We have a crisis in the football leadership and the crisis went to the courts and the supreme courts decided. So, what is FIFA talking about? And yet they also don’t want to meet us.” said Dalung.

Dalung is adamant that FIFA are incorrect and he believes that FIFA should treat governing bodies in Africa with more respect.

“FIFA cannot be right. They have not even appreciated what is on the ground. Football is funded in Africa by governments which build the infrastructure and pump in money. FIFA must, therefore, learn to treat the government partners with respect,” added Dalung in his interview with KweséESPN.

“We wrote them a letter seeking [a platform to] discuss the crisis in Nigerian football. But, we received a letter on Thursday saying that they are not willing to meet with the Nigerian delegation. That is the best we have done to engage with them and discuss the crisis.

“They have decided to take sides and stand by what they think,” added the Sports Minister.
