Scholarship Criteria
Successful applicants must finish the following minimum curriculum in high school (each unit is equal to one academic year of study) in order to be eligible:
- English: 4 units
- Mathematics (college preparatory): 3 units
- Social studies: 3 units
- Laboratory science: 2 units
- Foreign language: 2 units
The clear benefit of Seattle University is its consideration of freshmen for direct admission to certain programs. As a result, several majors have unique supplementary criteria for admission. For further information, please refer to the “Direct Entry Admission Requirements section.”
ACT And SAT Exam Scores
Seattle University uses a comprehensive evaluation of your application materials to make admission decisions. Evaluating student performance on the SAT or ACT test, optional for all first-time college applicants, is a component of that comprehensive analysis.
When deciding on admission and scholarships, as well as in the advising and course placement of first-time students, Seattle University will utilize the highest subscores on both the ACT and SAT Reasoning exams if you submit your test results.
If candidates opt to submit test results, they must be received by November 15 for early action applicants and January 15 for normal admission applicants if they are applying as first-time freshmen. To complete applications, they will temporarily accept self-reported scores from the Common Application; however, if a student chooses to enroll at SU, they must provide official results.
International Students
The Admissions Office advises overseas applicants to take either the SAT or ACT and submit their results, even if it is not mandatory.

Gaps In Education
Before applying for admission to Seattle University, a candidate who has a five-year or longer educational gap may be required to provide a current academic record at another institution or university. For certain large applications, more current prerequisite education could be required. To learn more, please speak with your admissions counselor.
Prerequisites For English fluency
Regardless of their period of presence in the country, citizenship, or immigration status, applicants whose native language is not English must show English competence.
Direct Entry Admissions Requirements
Seattle University provides the special benefit of selecting freshmen for Direct Entry into specified majors. As a result, several majors have unique supplementary criteria for admission. Some programs have extra credit requirements for consideration of Direct Entry.
For instance, a student will be considered for admission to Seattle University’s nursing school if they specify “Nursing” on the Common Application. If accepted, the student would be able to start taking classes—or prerequisites—in the nursing program as soon as they enrolled at SU and would be on a four-year road to a degree.
Students will be considered for premajor studies, pre-science, and pre-engineering if they don’t fulfill the minimal direct entrance criteria for their desired major, in the event that a student’s desired major changes throughout the application evaluation process, the Admissions Office will notify them. With the exception of nursing, a student who enrolls in a “pre-” program has access to 4-year graduation choices in all majors.
Students cannot switch their major from another degree at Seattle University to nursing because of the cohort structure of the nursing program. The minimal prerequisites for direct entrance are as follows, keeping in mind that submission of SAT or ACT test results is optional for all first-time college applicants to Seattle University:
