New full-time International freshmen at Seattle University will be given merit scholarship consideration at the time of their acceptance. The university’s usual entrance criteria for the autumn, winter, or spring quarter must be met by scholarship winners. International students are people who are neither nationals nor lawful permanent residents of the United States and often need a visa to study in the country.

Scholarship Criteria

Successful applicants must finish the following minimum curriculum in high school (each unit is equal to one academic year of study) in order to be eligible:

  • English: 4 units
  • Mathematics (college preparatory): 3 units
  • Social studies: 3 units
  • Laboratory science: 2 units
  • Foreign language: 2 units

The clear benefit of Seattle University is its consideration of freshmen for direct admission to certain programs. As a result, several majors have unique supplementary criteria for admission. For further information, please refer to the “Direct Entry Admission Requirements section.”

ACT And SAT Exam Scores

Seattle University uses a comprehensive evaluation of your application materials to make admission decisions. Evaluating student performance on the SAT or ACT test, optional for all first-time college applicants, is a component of that comprehensive analysis.

When deciding on admission and scholarships, as well as in the advising and course placement of first-time students, Seattle University will utilize the highest subscores on both the ACT and SAT Reasoning exams if you submit your test results.

If candidates opt to submit test results, they must be received by November 15 for early action applicants and January 15 for normal admission applicants if they are applying as first-time freshmen. To complete applications, they will temporarily accept self-reported scores from the Common Application; however, if a student chooses to enroll at SU, they must provide official results.

International Students

The Admissions Office advises overseas applicants to take either the SAT or ACT and submit their results, even if it is not mandatory.

Gaps In Education

Before applying for admission to Seattle University, a candidate who has a five-year or longer educational gap may be required to provide a current academic record at another institution or university. For certain large applications, more current prerequisite education could be required. To learn more, please speak with your admissions counselor.

Prerequisites For English fluency

Regardless of their period of presence in the country, citizenship, or immigration status, applicants whose native language is not English must show English competence.

Direct Entry Admissions Requirements

Seattle University provides the special benefit of selecting freshmen for Direct Entry into specified majors. As a result, several majors have unique supplementary criteria for admission. Some programs have extra credit requirements for consideration of Direct Entry.

For instance, a student will be considered for admission to Seattle University’s nursing school if they specify “Nursing” on the Common Application. If accepted, the student would be able to start taking classes—or prerequisites—in the nursing program as soon as they enrolled at SU and would be on a four-year road to a degree.

Students will be considered for premajor studies, pre-science, and pre-engineering if they don’t fulfill the minimal direct entrance criteria for their desired major, in the event that a student’s desired major changes throughout the application evaluation process, the Admissions Office will notify them. With the exception of nursing, a student who enrolls in a “pre-” program has access to 4-year graduation choices in all majors.

Students cannot switch their major from another degree at Seattle University to nursing because of the cohort structure of the nursing program. The minimal prerequisites for direct entrance are as follows, keeping in mind that submission of SAT or ACT test results is optional for all first-time college applicants to Seattle University:

Albers School Of Business And Economics

Applicants must pass three college-level mathematics courses to be considered for admission to the Albers School of Business and Economics. For consideration for admission, candidates for the business, law, and business analytics majors must pass four units of college-level mathematics, including the precalculus equivalent (B grades or higher).

Direct acceptance into these programs requires scores of 640+ on the SAT Math or 28 or higher on the ACT Math component, should a student decide to submit ACT or SAT results. Admissions will use a comprehensive evaluation process for test-optional applicants that includes transcripts, courses, grade trends, reference letters, and other application documents besides SAT or ACT test results.

College Of Arts And Sciences

Candidates for the Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science degree must have completed four courses in college-level mathematics, including the equivalent of precalculus, with grades of B or above. For direct entrance consideration, candidates must also successfully pass laboratory biology and chemistry with grades of B or above.

College Of Nursing

Candidates for admission to the College of Nursing must successfully complete three years of college-preparatory mathematics (with grades of B or better), as well as one full year of laboratory biology and chemistry (both with grades of B or higher).    Participants in laboratory physics and chemistry are required for Diagnostic Ultrasound applicants (B grades or higher).

Please be aware that for applicants who choose not to take the SAT or ACT, admissions will conduct a thorough evaluation of their transcripts, courses, grade trends, reference letters, and other application materials in addition to their test results.

College Of Science And Engineering

For admission to any of the college’s specified majors, applicants must successfully complete 4 units of college-level mathematics with a grade of B or above. (Students with only three units may be eligible for pre-science.) Applicants for Engineering majors must finish chemistry (B grade or above) (B grade or higher).

For consideration for admission, applicants for Biology, Biochemistry, and Chemistry must pass laboratory biology and chemistry with grades of B or above. Please be aware that for applicants who choose not to take the SAT or ACT, admissions will conduct a thorough evaluation of their transcripts, courses, grade trends, reference letters, and other application materials in addition to their test results.
