Overview Of The University Of Newcastle
The University of Newcastle (UON), also known as Newcastle University, is an Australian public university in Newcastle, New South Wales. It was founded in 1965 and had its primary campus in the Newcastle suburb of Callaghan. Additionally, the university has campuses in Ourimbah, Port Macquarie, Singapore, Newcastle CBD, and Sydney CBD. The university collaborates with partners such as CRCC Asia and The Intern Group to arrange internship placements for its students outside of Australia.
The University of Newcastle has built a strong reputation as a world-leading university, making an impact in its regions, Australia, and around the world, guided by its values of excellence, equity, sustainability, and engagement. The university has long been recognized as a supporter of novel approaches to teaching and learning. Many of its courses are designed to combine theory and practice, providing numerous opportunities for real-world, hands-on experience.
Historically, the University of Newcastle Medical School has implemented a problem-based learning system for its undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine program. This system was later mandated for use throughout Australia by the Australian Medical Council. In the early 1990s, it was the first to use the Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT). Since then, the UMAT has been widely accepted as an additional selection criterion by various medical schools throughout Australia.
The library at the University of Newcastle is made up of three libraries spread across three campuses. The Auchmuty, Ourimbah, and Newcastle City campus libraries are among them. The Auchmuty library on the Callaghan campus is the largest, with a significant traditional collection that includes rare books and archives. Auchmuty’s extensive collection benefits various schools, including education, nursing, and fine arts. To meet the needs of the joint campus, the Ourimbah library on the Central Coast campus houses a collection of both university and TAFE texts.

There is also information common, similar to the one found at the Auchmuty library. The University of Newcastle library includes the Newcastle City campus library. The library has recently established multidisciplinary learning areas such as a Micro Studio for multimedia production and a Maker Space to engage students in creative problem-solving.
Across its campuses, the institution provides access to various athletic facilities. Most of these amenities are located on the Callaghan campus, with six athletic ovals, squash and tennis courts, and sports and aquatic center. NUsport maintains these facilities via a group called “The Forum.” “The Forum Sports & Aquatic Centre, University” has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, the southern hemisphere’s second tallest climbing wall, and various other athletic facilities.
It also serves as a training facility for sports teams such as the Newcastle Knights of the National Rugby League (NRL), the Newcastle Jets of the A-League, and the Hunter Hurricanes of the National League Water Polo. The Forum also operates a facility in Newcastle’s CBD called “The Forum, Health and Wellness Centre, Harbourside.”

The mentioned scholarship amount and number of available scholarships are purely suggestive. The real value will be determined by the duration of the program and continued eligibility.
